The Wander Project (Soft) Launch

The Wander Project: Latest post

Today I somewhat randomly decided to do a “soft launch” of The Wander Project. Blame it on excitement or impatience, but my planned launch date of May 1 seems like it’ll never get here.  So I switched from the development domain, posted some links and activated a Twitter account. Baby steps, but perhaps declaring my existence on the interwebs will keep me on task, helping to make the final push to a) get the site done and b) get on a plane.

About 25% of the site’s functionality is still in the works: some links don’t work, buttons don’t exist, minor elements have yet to be constructed… I’m working on it.  If you’ve got any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

  2. [...] New blood. The Wander Project is an experiment. It documents the open-ended trip of a twentysomething freelance journalist and combines practical information on long-term travel with compelling multimedia content about people, places and experiences from around the world. And it just soft-launched this week. Check out Josh Fulmer’s new project here.  [...]

  4. I really like the layout. It’s so simple and yet there’s a lot going on. Did you custom design or use a premium WP theme?

  5. Thanks Heather! That’s exactly what I was going for- something that was highly functional yet “clean.” It’s based on a free WP theme called The Morning After. I definitely tweaked it quite a bit stylistically, but credit for the functionality goes to the theme’s creator, Arun Kale. I looked at some “premium” WP themes, but ultimately I liked what I could do with this one.

  6. Looks like I stumbled onto this project on the day of your true launch! Cheers!

I’m doing a similar thing (except I’ve only just graduated and am still unaffiliated). Excited to follow along with your wander project. Has your itinerary come together yet, or are you choosing next destinations on the fly?

  7. Thanks Crystal! I do have a very rough itinerary that’s taking shape- I’m trying not to overplan. I’ll post about it soon. Good luck with your own trip!
